China-Portugal Science and Technology Forum on Climate and Energy

On 29th May 2026, the China-Portugal Science and Technology Forum on Climate and Energy will take place in Beijing in China's Science and Technology Exchange Center. 

This Forum aims to mobilize innovation for global sustainable development, focusing on themes such as green energy, vertical AI applications, and AI infrastructure. It aims to build a new international cooperation mechanism and a model for China–Portugal green technology collaboration.

CERENA researchers participate in outreach activities

This month, CERENA researchers participated in different outreach activities. On 12th May 2026, Gustavo Paneiro visited Agrupamento de Escolas Madeira Torres, where he presented the formative offer on Mining and Energy Resources Engineering. Gustavo highlighted the work carried out at CERENA, where he demonstrated the importance of Mining Engineers by engaging students in a practical activity.

CERENA Fifth Annual Meeting

On 14th and 15th May 2026, CERENA’s researchers reunited at Foz do Arelho for their fifth Annual Meeting. This yearly meeting is fundamental for CERENA researchers from the three host institutions – Técnico, ISEL, and FEUP – to come together, discuss science and promote multidisciplinary.

GREENMETALS MAPPING is an innovation platform that reinforces Europe’s strategic autonomy in critical raw materials by delivering a European-scale digital infrastructure for AI-powered resource intelligence. It responds to the urgent need to reduce dependency on non-EU supply, and ensure data traceability and environmental accountability, in line with the EU Green Deal and the Critical Raw Materials Act. The platform integrates artificial intelligence from end to end - from data preparation and geological modelling to valuation, institutional reporting, and user interaction.
