Associate Professor

CERENA-IST

.

Maria Amélia Lemos is an associate professor at IST in the Chemical Engineering Department. She graduated in 1981 in Chemical Engineering at IST, obtained her Master's in Chemistry of Catalytic Processes in 1985 and a PhD in Chemistry in 1993 with a thesis on the Synthesis and Electrochemical Behaviour of Iron-Isocyanide Complexes. She is currently a member of the Executive Committee of CERENA.  Her main fields of research are catalysis (both homogeneous and heterogeneous), electrochemistry (including sensor development), analysis and modelling of dynamic systems and process control. She has published more than 215 scientific works, 85 papers in specialised scientific journals, and over 130 works in conference proceedings. She has published 7 book chapters, 2 books, and registered 1 patent. She has supervised or co-supervised 5 PhD theses, 1 ongoing, and oriented 43 master's theses. She participated in or coordinated various research projects. She works in the areas of Engineering Sciences and Technologies with an emphasis on Chemical Engineering and Chemical Process Engineering, in the fields of Waste Valorisation, Tertiary recycling, Sustainable Fuels, Circular Economy, Molecular and Kinetic Modelling, and Polymerisation. She was the coordinator of PiCE - Plastics in the circular economy, a project financed by FCT.
