CERENA-IST

.

Jakub Skiba is an MSCA PhD candidate within the CRITERIA project, focused on the utilization of mine waste and tailings. His current research is centered around the optimization of mining activities utilizing stochastic mine planning methods, centered around energy reduction and mitigation of socio-environmental issues associated with the extraction of raw materials.
He graduated from AGH UST in Kraków, with a BSc degree in mining engineering. Later, he pursued a MSc degree in Sustainable and Innovative Natural Resource Management (SINReM), an EIT Raw Materials certified Erasmus Mundus degree. The program was hosted by Ghent University (Belgium), TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany), and Uppsala University (Sweden).
His Bachelor's thesis was focused on innovative mineral extraction technologies, and his Master's dissertation was concerned with the socio-environmental impacts of lithium-ion battery recycling. During his MSc degree, he took part in an internship in cooperation with ENGIE, where he was focused on the market opportunities for valorising by-products of the water desalination industry.
