Energy

About

In the Energy Group, we foster knowledge on three main areas: conventional fuelsalternative fuels and energy efficiency.

Our work in process engineering promotes the circular economy and sustainability of industry, promoting greener sources and more energy-efficient industrial practices. In EnerG, we develop computational tools for systematic process analysis, optimization, generation and evaluation of sustainable design alternatives. Our scientists work to valorize industrial by-products, biomass and waste as a source of energy, through processes such as biomass liquefaction, gasification and pyrolysis, in order to reduce water-energy consumption at industrial levels. We also work on novel carbon capture techniques, through the model and design of Ca-looping processes. These recent lines of research strengthen the natural links between Energy and Environment.
