Towards Seismic Hazard Assessment in Portuguese-Speaking African Countries

The Project TSHAPS-Towards Seismic Hazard Assessment in Portuguese-Speaking African Countries is one of the selected projects by FCT and  the Aga Khan Foundation.

The project lead by João Fonseca aims to understand disaster risk, and to strengthen disaster risk governance. The risk addressed is the occurrence of earthquakes and its impacts in the African CPLP countries, more specifically Angola and Sao Tomé e Príncipe (STP), being its central goal capacity building.

'This edition of the call sought to support new initiatives and collaborations between Portuguese, African and AKDN scientific and academic research institutions, with the aim of developing international partnerships that contribute to reinforcing research capacities, encouraging and strengthening scientific, technical human and social skills and capacities directed at advancing Quality of Life in Africa.
Of a total of 203 eligible applications submitted, 42 passed to the second evaluation phase, having 21 applications been selected for funding, distributed across 13 African countries. The projects supported under this call have a duration of 36 months and represent a total investment of 5 million euros.'
