Seismic Methods for Geothermal Exploration: Insights from Dr. Cyz on the Finland Case

Last December, Dr. Marta Cyz from the Geological Survey of Finland visited CERENA-IST to present a seminar on the use of seismic methods for mineral and geothermal exploration. 

Despite the challenges posed by Finland’s hard rock environments and the region's limited geothermal potential, efforts to explore alternative energy sources, such as geothermal, continue. Dr. Cyz shared case studies and strategies for overcoming these obstacles, highlighting the practical applications of seismic methods. 

The seminar, attended by over 15 participants from CERENA, DER, and DEQ, was followed by a lively discussion, with many attendees expressing interest in the inspiring efforts to pursue energy transition despite the challenges.
