Paper published: Lithium in Public Drinking Water and Suicide Mortality in Portugal: Initial Approach

The paper "Lithium in Public Drinking Water and Suicide Mortality in Portugal: Initial Approach", by Pedro Oliveira, Joana Zagalo, Nuno Madeira and Orquídia Neves, was published in Acta Médica Portuguesa.

Some ecological studies support the hypothesis that the intake of natural levels of lithium in the water we drink may have a protective effect on the risk of suicide, an important societal problem. Following the work initiated by researchers from CERENA (Orquidia Neves and José Marques), related to the project "Lithium and possible health benefits", this publication, which links the Geosciences to Medicine (Medical Geology), publishes the first results obtained in Portugal on this subject.
