Maria Cristina Fernandes

Assistant Professor

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Assistant Professor at IST/Department Chemical Engineering and integrated member of CERENA/IST – Process Optimization for Energy Efficiency and Technology. She has been involved in many projects, mainly with industrial funding. Teaching activities: Mass and heat balances; process synthesis and integration, biofuels, design of chemical processes. Main Research Activities: Process integration: develop the design of mass and heat networks to reduce minimum utility cost and the amount of effluents; Modelling and simulation: several software tools are used to model and simulate industrial process to promote the global efficiency; Biomass resources: Study of different alternatives to enhance the useful use of forest resources; Crystallisation – Tartaric stabilization of wines.
