Marta Costa Lourenço

CERENA-IST

.

Marta Lourenço completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemical Engineering at IST (Instituto Superior Técnico). She defended her Master's thesis, titled "Lignin-Based Copolymers by Free Radical Polymerization for Sustainable Carbon Fibers," in November 2024. Her work is part of the BioCFiber project funded by FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia), which aims to replace conventional carbon fiber precursors with renewable, biomass-derived materials.
In February 2025, she started her PhD in Chemical Engineering at IST and joined CERENA (Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente). Her PhD research focus on the topic entitled "Synthesis of Silica/Titania-Lignin Hybrids for Wastewater Treatment," and aims to contribute to the advancement of hybrid materials for environmental remediation, specifically wastewater purification.
