Two new projects, submitted by CERENA-FEUP, were funded under competitive national funds- ANI and NORTE2020 through the European Regional Development Fund.
CAVALI - CADEIA DE VALOR DO LÍTIO and SHS - Soil health surrounding former mining areas: characterization, risk analysis, and intervention
The CAVALI project aims to develop up to the maximum limit considered as possible and feasible, the value chain of the production cycle of lithium-based batteries for electric vehicles, thus enhancing the maximization of the added value resulting from the exploitation of the national resources of this metal.
SHS is an integrated study addressing the environmental pollution resulting from coal mining activities, Sb-Au and W (N Portugal) deposited in heaps, and ways to determine mitigation measures to restore the health of these resources. The sociological impact associated with the exploration of geological resources and the perception of risks and dangers for the population will be addressed.
