CERENA researchers Pedro Pina and Vasco Miranda are developing a field campaign in Antarctica between middle February and early March 2019 in the frame of project VEGETANTAR. The main objective of the campaign is to collect ultra-high detailed remotely sensed data with an UAV about vegetation covers that occur in small and sparse patches of the Antarctic ice-free areas. The campaign is taking place in Barton Peninsula of King George Island (62°S) in collaboration with the Polar Research Institute from South Korea (KOPRI) and stays at King Sejong Station. A diary of the campaign tracing the main activities developed in Antarctica within this and other Portuguese projects can be consulted at PROPOLAR blog.
