CERENA’s researchers already have a long experience in advanced training and active coordination and participation in several MSc and PhD Courses. Presently, CERENA’s researchers are coordinating MSc courses in Mining and Geological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Materials Engineering at IST and at FEUP the MSc in Mining and Geo-Environment. CERENA is also involved in the Scientific Committee of the MSc in Environmental Engineering and in Energy Management and Engineering. This latter is also the anchor for the participation of IST in different KIC-Innoenergy international MSc degrees in collaboration with other European Universities and attracting students from all over the world. The major KIC-InnoEnergy programs involved are ENTECH, RENE, SELECT and Clean Coal where CERENA is responsible for courses on renewable and chemical fuels. Presently, CERENA is working to create a Double MSc Degree in Petroleum Engineering with Clausthal University (Germany).

CERENA coordinates PhD Programmes in Earth-Resources, Chemical Engineering and Refining, Petrochemical and Chemical Engineering at IST and the PhD Programme of Mining and Geo-Resources Engineering at FEUP. A new PhD Programme in Petroleum Engineering was recently proposed and is currently under evaluation by the national Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education.

CERENA will also continue coordinating the consortium of Portuguese Universities – Técnico/ULisboa, FCUL and  UA – participating in the Course of Advanced Studies in Geoengineering of Carbonate Reservoirs, created to serve the needs in advanced training of qualified personnel of Petrogal and Petrobras. In the consortium of universities participates also two top Brazilian Universities in the field – UNESP and UNICAMP.

CERENA offers “in-house” formation programs in reservoir characterization, mineral reserves evaluation and geophysical characterization, for international oil companies. The most recent courses have been given for companies in Abu-Dhabi, Brazil and Angola.

CERENA will continue coordinating/participating in Erasmus Intensive Programme such as on Heat Integration and Biorefineries and on Optimization and Decision Support Systems to the Supply Chain.

CERENA is also actively involved in other advanced formation activities for professionals and qualified personnel including the FormAG programme of AcademiaGALP, where IST is in charge of the Oil & Gas module, which provides advanced training for GALPEnergia personnel.

CERENA will continue to search for new advanced training opportunities, especially in areas where there is a lack of offer in Europe and large and a high demand for skilled professionals from companies around the world (http://sciencecareers.sciencemag.org/career_magazine/previous_issues/articles/2013_10_10/caredit.a1300225) or where we hold a strong and unique specialization, while consolidating the current training projects in which we are involved.
