Bio: Ricardo Pereira is Senior Exploration Geologist and has been part of Partex Oil and
Gas since 2000.
In 1996 had a degree in Geology from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of
He completed his Master’s degree in Stratigraphy and Sedimentology at FCUL in
2002 where he developed the master’s thesis in Carophytes Micropaleontology of
Jurassic and Cretaceous of the Lusitanian Basin.
He was visiting Professor at Evora University (1997-1999) and at University of
Lisbon (Petroleum Geology, 2004-2006).
Between 2008 and 2013 he developed a PhD (part-time) at the University of Cardiff researching the
tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Alentejo Basin.
Between 2013-2017 he was working in the Petroleum Develpment Oman (PDO).
During his career the main work areas were focused on topics such as basin analysis and new
opportunities, prospect analysis, regional geology and Play Based Exploration in several regions
including Kazakhstan, Brazil, Algeria, Portugal, Angola and Oman.
Founder and Secretary of the Portuguese Association of Geoscientists and Petroleum Engineers
(APGEP) since 2015.
