Digital Innovation in Mining Industry: the management of uncertainty

In an article of Ingenium focused on Engineering and digital transformation Amílcar Soares explains how the digital innovation in the mining industry can contribute for the management of uncertainty. Amílcar Soares refers to the greatest challenge of monitoring and managing resources in real-time (a fundamental part of the digital innovation in a mine-routine) which is precisely the integration of data uncertainty in the resources and reserves models and their conversion at risk of decision. An example of one of the first steps in this field of digital innovation in mining industry is the Real Time Mining project, European project (H2020, Grant Agreement No. 641989) with two dozen partners, schools and mining industry and equipment, in which the Instituto Superior Técnico is the national representative.
