CERENA in Antarctica: 2018 Campaign
The new campaign of CERENA’s researchers in Antarctica is about to start. This year, the field activities will be developed by Pedro Pina and Sandra Heleno and will take place at Barton Peninsula during February 2018, focusing on the capture of millimetric images by drones to map and monitor patterned ground (stone circles) and vegetation (lichens and mosses) in a joint international contribution to better evaluate the impact of climate change on the ice-free areas of Antarctica. These activities are part of project CIRCLAR2 supported by the Portuguese Polar Program (PROPOLAR) and will be developed in close collaboration with the Korean Polar Research Institute (KOPRI). A journal of the campaign, describing the activities being developed, will be regularly published in the blog of PROPOLAR. Stay tuned!
